According to the United Nations Population Division, in 2010 there were 214 million international migrants world-wide, ranging from highly trained individuals in specialized professions to low-wage unskilled workers. In most cases, people migrate in search of opportunities to improve their wellbeing or life situation, acting on their dreams and ambitions. This has historically been the case for migrants to the United States, a country characterized by immigration in search of the American Dream . The U.S. has been a primary destination for migrants from around the world since its founding as a nation; however, the profi le and country of origin of migrants have changed over time. Read more
