National Congressional Alliance Renal Effort Task Force

The National Congressional Alliance Renal Effort (CARE) Task Force has been formed to provide counsel on the CARE initiatives. The National CARE Task Force has the following roles:

  • Guide the development of CARE implementation plans for each targeted congressional district
  • Advise on the implementation of the CARE program within specific congressional districts identified by the Chronic Kidney Disease Atlas (CK-Atlas)
  • Guide development of metrics to measure implementation effectiveness
  • Participate in national and community media-related events to increase awareness of the CARE program
  • Evaluate and advise on intervention plans implemented in each of the congressional districts by reviewing performance metrics and outcome measurements
  • Approve and act upon the model to address health disparities in chronic kidney disease (CKD) by using the Washington, DC, CARE experience with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) as a template

DC CARE Task Force

The DC CARE Task Force is a local task force that includes members of the DC City Council and representatives from the American Kidney Fund, the National Kidney Foundation, and the DC Department of Health, as well as specialists in nephrology and organ transplants from Howard University, George Washington University, and Georgetown University. Within this membership, a collaborative program is being developed to educate primary-care physicians in metropolitan Washington, DC, about the incidence, diagnosis, and treatment of CKD and ESRD.

Another initiative is under way to increase neighborhood awareness of and participation in screenings in specific zip codes within the District of Columbia that show the highest rates of CKD and ESRD incidence. A number of public-relations events are being planned in order to promote these activities.
