The National Clinical Trial Network (NCTN)

The National Clinical Trial Network (NCTN) will address a critical need in drug research – improving the representation of racial and ethnic minorities in clinical trials.

The National Clinical Trial Network (NCTN) will serve as the healthcare industry resource for addressing a critical need in drug research – improving the representation of racial and ethnic minorities in clinical trials.

The NCTN is designed to accelerate the recruitment into clinical trials of a representative sample of consumers who are anticipated to benefit from a proposed therapy.  It is:

  • A data warehouse — a virtual library (maps, charts, graphs and registries) of information about patterns of illness (prevalence, outcomes, cost, etc.) afflicting populations by geography, race/ethnicity, gender, age and time.
  • An interactive, communications network linking researchers to physicians who are practicing in communities where potential diverse candidates for clinical trials reside.
