In this era of healthcare reform, there are a number of barriers and drivers that will impact industry’s consumer and healthcare professional business models.  The business imperative will be having the knowledge and capacity to adapt to these influencers –    the development of national quality standards; the entrée of emerging markets; and the introduction of nascent technologies.

From our perspective, we ask: “How will consumer demand for healthcare services be impacted by healthcare reform?” With 38 million new consumers coming into the market, many of whom are minorities with diseases such as diabetes, and with rising senior demand for health care, we are asking corporate leaders who must serve these growing markets to look into the future with us.  As such, we are convening our annual corporate roundtable meeting – “Critical Challenges in the Era of Healthcare Reform” – to provide us with the insights needed to adjust to the demands of a changing healthcare system.   These insights will guide us as we develop initiatives and programs to support physicians’ efforts to enroll emerging consumers into the healthcare system

Meeting objectives

  • To assess how the development, testing, and implementation of evidence-based performance measures will influence the delivery of healthcare

  • To identify opportunities for public-private sector collaboration in light of the demands that emerging healthcare consumers will have on industry, physicians, hospitals, and payers.

  • To learn about the development of innovative technologies designed to improve the delivery of healthcare information

Meeting deliverables

The information derived from the corporate roundtable meeting will support a publication strategy designed to facilitate the enrollment of emerging consumers into the healthcare system.  The publication strategy will inform how healthcare reform will impact utilization and consumption patterns, costs, and outcomes within specific geographical areas and populations;  will help to assess the ‘value’ of the emerging healthcare consumers and their pending impact with healthcare professionals; and provide a rationale for healthcare professionals to expand their patient base to include the previously uninsured ‘emerging consumers.’

 About our speakers

Warren A. Jones, M.D.  (Chairperson) is a family physician and retired Captain in the U.S. Navy, is the founding Executive Director of the Mississippi Institute for the Improvement of Geographical Minority Health Disparities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is also a Professor of Family Medicine and a Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Senior Health Policy Advisor. Jones is also an assistant clinical professor of Family Medicine at Howard University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.

He was most recently Executive Director of the Division of Medicaid in the Office of the Governor of Mississippi, the state’s health program for over 768,000 indigent Mississippians. He serves on the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He also serves as Chair Designee of the Advisory Council to the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He also serves on the Board of Trustees for his Alma Mater, Dillard University in New Orleans, LA.

Dr. Jones is Past President of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  He has also served Chair of the AAFP’s Board of Directors and President-elect of the Academy. He is also Chair of the Maternal Child Council, Past Chair of the Family Medicine Section and Aerospace & Military Medicine Section of the National Medical Association. He also served on the Minority Affairs Governing Council for the American Medical Association.

Bernard Rosof, M.D, MACP is a nationally recognized leader in quality and performance measurement.    Dr. Rosof is Senior Vice President for Corporate Relations and Health Affairs at North Shore-LIJ Health System. Prior to assuming a full time hospital position, Dr. Rosof spent 29 years in an Internal Medicine/Gastroenterology private practice. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Medicine at New York University School of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Huntington Hospital, Huntington, New York.

Dr. Rosof has been a driving force in American medicine and has spoken nationally and internationally on issues of healthcare quality and patient safety. He has chaired Committees and Task Forces for the State of New York, the Institute of Medicine, the American Medical Association, and various specialty societies. He has achieved national recognition in the areas of health quality and clinical practice guidelines and is the current Chair of the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement convened by the AMA. Dr. Rosof  is also a member of the Board of Directors of the National Quality Forum and the Committee for Performance Measurement of the NCQA.  Dr. Rosof was the Chairman of the Committee on Quality in Office Based Surgery convened by the Commissioner of Health of New York State. He is editor in chief of the peer reviewed journal Current Clinical Practice and is a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Medical Quality.

Dr. Rosof is a Master of the American College of Physicians and Chair Emeritus and President Emeritus of the Board of Regents of the American College of Physicians. He is Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the American College of Physicians, The American Society of Internal Medicine and The Internal Medicine Center to Advance Research and Education. Dr. Rosof is the recipient of the Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians and the Theodore Roosevelt Award for Distinguished Community Service.


Terris King currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality, (OCSQ) at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He is responsible for the development of national coverage policies and quality standards for Medicare and Medicaid providers; quality measurement and public reporting iniatives; and manages the Quality Improvement Organization program.

Terris is the CMS executive lead for value based purchasing. This initiative includes designing and developing quality improvement activities for the Physician Office, Hospital, Home Health, Nursing Home and End Stage Renal Disease Arenas. He is also the lead executive responsible for reducing health disparities throughout the country among underserved populations. Prior to assuming his OCSQ role, he served as the Deputy Associate Commissioner of the Office of Quality Assurance and Performance Assessment. He was responsible for assuring the integrity and quality of the administration of Social Security programs. This function included the definition, design, development, maintenance and evaluation of SSA policies, system abuse, elimination of waste and increased efficiencies. Through subordinate supervisors, he directed an organization of approximately 1,300 employees in several major components located at Headquarters and in Quality Assurance and Performance Assessment Field Offices. Terris has worked in a series of progressively more responsible positions throughout his career. He was selected for the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program in 1998. During his SES development program, Terris served as the Acting Director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention for the State of Maryland. 


Paul McRae leads an overlay team of healthcare specialists that provide technology support to AT&Ts core account teams. In his most recent role Paul was the RVP responsible for the healthcare core account team vertical in the southeast. Currently, he leads the Healthcare Emerging Technologies organization with business development responsibilities across all segments of AT&T inclusive of both public and commercial sector clients.

The primary initiative for the HET organization is to drive clinical integration and collaboration across the entire healthcare ecosystem through the use of cloud based and mobile technologies. By addressing the business needs and challenges in healthcare with technology, AT&T intends to assist in the overhaul of the Healthcare ecosystem by reducing costs, improving efficiencies and driving better patient outcomes.

Prior to joining the healthcare organization, McRae was Direct of sales for AT&T’s Navy and Marine Corp practice, where responsible for solution development efforts and oversight of tactical and strategic business revenue. Paul has over 15 years providing IT and business outsourced solutions.

Having spent a portion of his career in both Finance and IT outsourcing, Paul brings to the organization a strong background in both technology as well as business application.

He has received numerous honors during his tenure with AT&T Originally from the mid-west he spent his childhood on the west coast of Florida, and has lived/worked in many of the major metropolitan cities across the US.
